What Browser should I use for the NTIA/ITS TA Services web site:
- In developing this web site, the documentation I used was for the HTML 3.2 specification
- as well as Netscape extensions included in versions of Netscape Navigator up to 3.0b5.
- To view the pages correctly, your browser should be able to handle FORMs and TABLEs.
-
- I would recommend using Netscape version 3 or newer.
- Actually, I now use only Internet Explorer (12/6/02)
- When Netscape went to version 6.0, I got very confused.
- Since then I have used IE and currently use version 6 (12/6/02).
- There are lots of settings, and once you get them set, things look good.
- Unfortunately, I forget some of the tricky settings!
- Now back to comments I wrote years ago...
- I have installed MicroSoft Internet Explorer 4.0 Version 4.71.17126 and
while it does work, I have observed many minor problems:
- Occasionally, the character (ÿ) will appear as though you had
entered it in a data input field. If this occurs, please inform me
of the circumstances so I can resolve the problem.
- As of May 1998, I believe this problem has been solved.
Please inform me if it occurs again.
- DO NOT hit a carriage return when entering FORM text or numeric data while
using Internet Explorer. It will function as though you hit the FORM submit button.
This may cause you to do something before you have specified all the new data.
This does not happen with Netscape.
- Occasional 500 Server Error - Malformed Headers. Sometimes, if you just
do the operation again, it will work. I have not experienced the 500 Server Error
with Netscape, unless there really was a problem.
- As of 19Nov97, I believe this problem has been solved.
Please inform me if it occurs again.
- Whenever you go BACK to the TA Services Login Page, the Password will be blank.
That does not happen with Netscape.
- Print, if it takes more than 1 page, MicroSoft Explorer may actually make
the page break in the middle of a table, whereas, Netscape will not.
- The BLINK element of HTML does not function. Some warning messages are displayed
blinking for extra emphasis.
- I do not have access to the AOL browser. It did not work originally, but I have now
heard that there are no problems with it.
-
- If you encounter problems, try running the FORM examples that can be found at:
the NCSA HTTPd Home Page.
Click on the FORMS Tutorial near the bottom
and you will find 13 examples near the bottom of that page.
-
- Please E-mail me with your own observations and I will correct what I can and
post the problems.
Send any questions/comments/problems to
